Carpenter Lake Cabins offers quality housekeeping cabins to accommodate hunting parties. In the late summer and early fall, we look for sign of moose and generally have a good idea of where moose are located; this information is passed on to hunting guests. We help to transport game and store game at camp. Please contact us for details of a moose hunt at Carpenter Lake.
Consult the Hunting Regulations Summary (www.mnr.gov.on.ca) for details including costs of hunting licenses for residents, seasons and draws in Wildlife Management Unit 36. We do not have validation moose tags for non-residents of Ontario.
There are many different techniques of moose hunting. Many people drive the roads looking for moose and sign of moose (tracks and droppings). This can be done by car or preferably 4X4 truck. An all-terrain vehicle can allow the hunter to travel along many tracks and abandoned log roads that are not traversable by other vehicles and thus allow greater access and improved odds of encountering moose. Once fresh sign of moose are found, the hunters can concentrate on this area and the more experienced hunter can follow the tracks of moose, sometimes successfully overtaking the animals. In certain instances, group hunts are arranged with some hunters following moose and attempting to drive the animals toward other hunters who have been positioned at localities where the moose are expected to pass. Moose can be taken by solo hunters who locate places frequented by moose and carefully comb these areas listening and watching for sign of the quarry.
